SlotPro aluminium extrusion has once again proven its strength and versatility, this time supporting international atmospheric research at the new Tāwhaki National Aerospace Centre in New Zealand.
The University of Canterbury used SlotPro extrusion to construct a multi-purpose platform that hosts a suite of high-precision instruments, including a cloud radar, laser cloud height (ceilometer), laser rain-gauge, and microwave rain radar. These instruments form part of an international research campaign supporting the HALO high-altitude research aircraft. The campaign compares ground-based and airborne atmospheric measurements to better understand climate and weather systems.
Precision and Adaptability in Design
The project required a stable and adaptable platform to support multiple instruments, each with unique mounting and alignment needs. Durability, rigidity, and vibration resistance were essential to ensure accurate and repeatable data collection. SlotPro’s modular T-slot system provided the ideal framework, allowing the team to fine-tune configurations on site while maintaining precise alignment and strength.
Built for Research and Expansion
The University of Canterbury team assembled a robust frame capable of supporting several instruments within one modular structure. The clean assembly process and compatibility of SlotPro fittings made installation efficient and reliable. The design also allows for future modification and expansion as research needs evolve.
As the international research campaign continues, the SlotPro aluminium extrusion platform provides a dependable foundation for advanced atmospheric science at the Tāwhaki National Aerospace Centre. It is built to perform in challenging environments and designed to adapt as scientific requirements change.
