Roller Racks for Apex Valves

SlotPro has recently completed a project designing and building custom roller racks for Apex Valves, a leading New Zealand manufacturer of high-performance valve systems based in Auckland. The project was part of a broader upgrade to their production environment, with a strong focus on improving workflow efficiency and reducing manual handling.

Traditional trolleys and manual handling methods can slow down production, create unnecessary strain for operators, and limit the flexibility of the factory floor. By contrast, roller racks provide an organised and efficient way to move components between workstations. They help manufacturers streamline workflow, minimise manual lifting, and create a safer, more productive environment.

Designing for Ergonomics and Efficiency

Apex Valves required a material handling solution that could keep up with their busy assembly processes. The priority was to reduce manual handling while making the transfer of components between workstations faster and more structured. Instead of relying on off-the-shelf solutions, Apex Valves partnered with SlotPro to design and build a customised roller rack system tailored to their production needs.

Each rack was constructed using SlotPro’s modular aluminium extrusion system. Frames were built from 40×40 profiles and fitted with rollers positioned to guide components smoothly into place. The modular design ensures strength and adaptability, while accessories such as universal connectors and angle brackets provide reliable, long-term performance.

Built to Specification and Delivered Ready to Use

To ensure a smooth installation, the roller racks were fully pre-assembled at SlotPro’s facility before delivery. This “built to specification” approach meant Apex Valves received a turnkey system that was ready to use immediately. With no assembly required on site, the racks were integrated quickly into the production area with no disruption to workflow.

The use of modular aluminium profiles also ensures flexibility for the future. As Apex Valves’ production requirements evolve, the roller racks can be reconfigured, expanded, or adapted without the cost and downtime associated with welded steel frames.

Results on the Production Floor

The new roller racks have now been deployed at Apex Valves’ facility and are already delivering results. Workflow has been streamlined, with components moving efficiently between stations. Manual handling has been reduced, lowering physical strain for operators and improving safety across the production line.

The upgrade has created a more structured and efficient material handling system that supports Apex Valves’ commitment to quality and productivity. By reducing wasted time and effort, the roller racks are helping the business keep pace with demand and maintain consistent output.

Moving Forward with SlotPro

Projects like this highlight the importance of smart material handling solutions in modern manufacturing. Roller racks are a practical and cost-effective way to improve workflow, reduce manual handling, and enhance operator safety. When built using modular aluminium profiles, they provide the added advantage of flexibility, allowing them to adapt as production needs change.

For Apex Valves, partnering with SlotPro ensured a customised solution that met their exact requirements and was delivered ready to use. For other manufacturers, it shows how roller racks can be designed and built to specification, delivering long-term value and efficiency.
